Lakewood has last words

GZP Staff|August 27th| St.Petersburg,FL

The Last Words:

The game was all that and more as both teams sold out their allotted number of tickets on Thursday night. The Lakewood High Spartans continued their winning streak but, it didn't come as easy as some would expect. They jumped out to an early 7-0 lead as Quarterback Anthony Colandrea lead them on an impressive drive, completing 5 of 5 passes and eventually punching it in with rising junior running back Montravius Lloyd. The Spartans would add another score before the half, leading 14-0 at the midway point.

The game was full of miscues and costly turnovers, leading to both teams needing to dig deep down the stretch. An already intense battle became that more exhilarating to watch! Two blocked punts by the Boca Ciega Pirates late in the 4th quarter, quickly changed the momentum and the atmosphere shifted favorably for the Pirates. However, the Pirates hopes of pulling off the upset were diminished, as the Spartans was able to rally behind the arm of QB Colandrea and the legs of RB Lloyd to hold off the Pirates 27- 12.
