Bradenton, FL I recently spoke with IMG's rising star DE Josh Griffis, 6'5" 237 (Bradenton, FL IMG Academy) who made some waves when word came of his de-committment from UF last week. Twitter was a buzz when the news broke, sending the Gator Nation into a twitter frenzy. However,Griffis isn't worried though, he has his mind focused on becoming a more dominant defensive End. As I approached Josh about the story I didn't won't to focus so much on the De-Commitment!
as much as I did concerning the story of who he was as a stud DE rising so rapidly. Griffis did mention when I asked about what he was looking for in a school now that he had de-committed from Florida?
"A good coaching staff, position coach and a team full of passionate hungry dogs wanting to win a national championship"!
I can tell by his tone he still has Gainesville in the back of his mind but for right now schools such as #Clemson #LSU #Penn State & #Ole miss just to name a few are knocking at his door.
So why the disconnect between him and UF? he really didn't say, but when I asked if he could return to the class he stated
"Yea I could possibly return, but I'm really just seeing what's out here and enjoying the recruiting process"
Josh is really looking forward to the season as he feels the Ascenders have a dominant front and a chance to make a deep run. One of the best in the country for that fact. The Ascenders open up against Columbia County in Gainesville that should be a good one. This big time brawl is what he's most looking foward too, to be quite honest.
Griffis has strung together a few great camps and has sites set on the Adidas camp next. He is definitely trending as schools start to take notice of his skill set. 247 sports has him rated as 28th at his position and 84th ranked in the state (FL)
Insiders Take: Josh is an athletic kid that is getting better each camp and has gained some attention as of late. He definitely has the it factor to be a legit force at the next level. Time will tell though as this is a make or break season for him. Do I see him re-join the Gators? Well we'll just have to see!
